Cultural Education

I convey the culture of the Lake Constance region with great passion - because I am convinced that only those who are enthusiastic about something themselves can leave a lasting impression and get people excited about a topic!

Whether on guided tours, educational museum activities, lectures or accompanying events - I look forward to introducing you to the multifaceted cultural landscape!

Guided tours

The guided tour is the classic form of mediation. Whether in a museum or on a city tour - I will guide you through history in an exciting and entertaining way!

Guided city tours

I have been working as a freelance city guide for Marketing & Tourismus GmbH Konstanz since 2018. On entertaining tours, I take you on a look at late medieval Constance, show you the hidden fire alleys and open up the Roman fort on Münsterplatz for you.

It's not just tourists, travel groups and school classes that I introduce to the special charm of the Council City and its numerous sights. Constance residents also get a new perspective on their home town in a lively journey through time.

Guided museum tours

I convey specialist knowledge in an entertaining way and with great passion! I have been working as a freelance tour guide for the Rosgarten Museum in Constance since 2016.

I would like to inspire you with the history of the oldest museum in the Lake Constance region in an age-appropriate manner and individually tailored to the respective group.

I accompany kindergarten children, school classes, people from Constance, tourists and senior citizens on an exciting tour through the permanent and special exhibitions of the City Museum.

Museum educational services

Museum educational services

As a freelance museum educator, I have been part of the team at the Rosgarten Museum in Constance since 2016. I teach history to young children as well as school classes and adults in a lively and playful way through various activities and workshops.

Under the motto "Precious Treasures", the Rosgartenmuseum team gave children and their parents exciting insights into everyday life at the museum and opened many a door behind the scenes. On Door Opener Day under the patronage of the Sendung mit der MausMore than 400 mouse fans, both young and old, took part in the "Mouse Day" on Tuesday, October 3.

Together with restorer Daniela Kocheise and historian Daniela Schilhab, the young visitors were able to explore and discover for themselves.

The children learned, which tools were used to restore pictures and were able to discover objects in a display case that might not be considered a "treasure" at first glance. They were then allowed to take an inventory of and photograph an object themselves using tactile objects and take this sheet home with them.

Staged themed tour: "Lake Constance fishermen and their fish"

From June 27 to December 29, 2019, the Rosgarten Museum in Constance hosted the special exhibition "Weather extremes and accidents on Lake Constance" .In a staged tour, interested visitors aged 5 and over learned more about life on and in the water, about environmental protection and about the profession of fisherman.

Children's Festival in Constance

Every year, the Constance Children's Festival attracts numerous visitors of all ages to the Constance City Garden. The freelance museum education team from the Rosgartenmuseum also regularly has a stand on site. Together with around 300 children, we print fabric bags, make seaworthy rags and, in keeping with the museum logo, colorful roses.

The Tägermoos - a German piece of Switzerland

The special exhibition "The Tägermoos. A German piece of Switzerland" was on display at the Rosgarten Museum in Constance from July 2016 to January 2017.

As a freelance museum educator, I accompanied the supporting program for the special exhibition.

In educational museum activities such as "Out into the field and into the pot" . went out into the fields with a vegetable farmer from Tägermoos. The children got to know a special part of their home in the border region in a fun way, were able to harvest and taste vegetables and then cook what they had harvested with a trainee from the council-restaurant in Constance.

In the activity "How is apple juice actually made?", the children experienced in individual steps what actually has to be done to make apple juice. In the Paradies district of Constance, they collected apples, washed them in a basin of water, crushed them and finally pressed their own apple juice in a press.

Training for guides

As part of the funding measures of the State Office for Museum Support, I developed three themed tours for the Jewish Museum in Gailingen in 2021/22 and created a museum case for educational outreach work.

In a training course, I coached potential tour guides and gave them the tools they needed to create a varied tour, as well as the main content.

Lectures

As a historian, my field of activity also includes public speaking. In addition to specialist lectures, I report on the results of my research at events organized by various cultural institutions. The lectures usually deal with specific topics relating to the city's history, to which the audience often has a personal connection. Accompanied by historical images, the history becomes audible and visible.

"Seasoning from the Gütterli" - Lecture on July 10, 2024 at the Rosgartenmuseum Konstanz

As part of the "Topic of the Month" series of events at the Rosgartenmuseum in Constance, I gave a talk as part of the special exhibition "Wir schaffen was! Working worlds in art on Lake Constance".

Under the title "Würze aus dem Gütterli - Die Singener Maggi um die Jahrhundertwende", I took the audience back to the age of industrialization. People's everyday lives were determined by the time clock: Work in poorly ventilated factories, too little sleep and inadequate nutrition caused numerous illnesses among the workers. The social question came to a head and demanded a solution, which was provided by a Thurgau native: Julius Maggi's inventions changed eating habits and the food market forever.

The revolutionary entrepreneurial personality and Maggi's path to becoming a global brand were the focus of the evening's lecture.

Labor migration in the western Lake Constance region from the 19th to the 20th century

The employment of foreign workers in the second half of the 20th century is still popularly known today as the era of the so-called "guest workers" in the Federal Republic of Germany. It is firmly anchored in the public culture of remembrance and is generally regarded as the beginning of labor migration to Germany. In fact, however, local companies were already actively recruiting foreign workers at the turn of the century. In the age of industrialization, foreign workers were also increasingly employed in the western Lake Constance region.

The Singen town archive's series of events "Searching and finding in files" offers interested parties the opportunity to find out more about topics relating to Singen's town history in an exciting way - "close to the sources", the participants heard more about the employment of foreign workers at Maggi in Singen, the Schiesser jersey factory in Radolfzell and the Stromeyer textile company in Constance.

Online-Presentation "Chambers of art and curiosities"

In the 16th century, it was good manners for rulers to build art chambers in their residences. They had great ambitions: They wanted to create an image of the world in miniature. Nobles collected for amusement, competed for the most bizarre objects and vied for recognition. Only selected guests were granted access to the private rooms. The cabinets of curiosities are the forerunners of today's museums and are characterized by one core task in particular: The collection of wondrous things.

In the online lecture for the Rosgarten Museum in Constance, I took a look with the participants into the chambers of art and curiosities of famous princes. One famous example is Ambras Castle in Innsbruck, which is still preserved today.

On July 18, 2021, the Italian Evening of the Cuore Italiano took place in the Bürgersaal in Constance. The event was part of the 70th anniversary of DFV-Constance.

Together with Marcello Benedetti (former social worker at Caritas) and Filomena Coppola (member of the Gruppo teatrale Italiano di Costanza), I reported on the history of our Italian migrants in Constance since the 1960s. The richly illustrated lecture was held in Italian and German.

Event accompaniments

Whether at company celebrations, anniversaries, birthdays or golden weddings - your guests will be delighted with an unusual, special form of entertainment.

"Habemus Papam: 600 years of the papal election in Constance"

In 2014-2018, the city of Constance celebrated the 600th anniversary of the Council of Constance. A council was held in the largest city on Lake Constance from 1414-1418 to end the schism in the church (the Great Western Schism), among other things. On November 11, 1417, the only pope on German soil to date was elected in today's council building.

To mark this anniversary, a varied program of short lectures, guided tours and activities took place on 11 November 2017. I was on duty as a cicerone for Konzilstadt Konstanz GmbH. As a historically staged person, I told visitors about this important event at the site of the event.

Golden wedding anniversary

I received a request from the Rosgarten Museum in Constance to give an entertaining talk as part of a golden wedding anniversary celebration. The couple wanted to learn more about the history of the town in 1966.

In the Constance city archives I combed through the newspaper volumes of the Constance Südkurier and on the day of the celebration I was able to give the guests an insight into the important events in Constance in 1966 - with the wedding of the bridal couple naturally being one of the highlights!

Digital cultural mediation

Especially in times of the Covid-19 pandemic, digital forms of communication are becoming increasingly important. However, culture can also be brought closer to those who are not on site, have limited mobility or are otherwise unable to attend digitally.

#DigitalCulturalEnjoyment: The City Museums of Constance online

Digital cultural contributions are published at regular intervals on the social media channels and the Homepage of the Rosgartenmuseum and on the YouTube channel of the City of Constance . In addition to current situation reports from the museums, image and object views, the video clips show information on topics and people from Constance's city history.

"A brief history of the University of Konstanz - Part I": The University of Konstanz celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2016! In this video clip from the Städtisches Rosgartenmuseum, I tell you how the university was founded.
